HB's aboard!

CONGRATS to HB, who just heard that he's been accepted onto the Seabourne.

For those in the know: we're wonderfully jealous and super happy for you!

For those not in the know: HB will be going to sea with the super-elite to super-stunning places on VERY nice boats. Ha ha - I mean luxury yachts.

And for future Seabourne passengers - watch out: he'll be staff and therefore off-limits! :)

Butler Course Aug-Oct needs a name!

Alright, we've sat together in our rows like a zebra crossing for 2 weeks now. It's time to reflect our black and white penguin suits in black little letters on a white blog page.

But we need a name. Seriously, 'Butler Course Aug-Oct' is a little cumbersome.

WHAT IS A BUTLER?

Butlers

Referred to as the "gentleman's gentleman", the butler is noted for his gracious and dignified manner which are essential characteristics for the role he plays as he is the first point of contact between the household and the outside world - answering the doorbell, receiving guests at the door and answering the telephone. He is responsible for supervising the domestic staff that he oversees, organizes and helps to train. He maintains the household budget and keeps an inventory of the silverware and other fine tableware, sets the table for meals and does the table service. He is experienced in serving techniques and table setting, well versed in high social etiquette and formal service, knowledgeable in wines and spirits and oversees the wine cellar and liqueur inventory. He supervises the family's packing and travel preparations and liaises with other staff as needed.

A well-trained butler is definitely an asset to have. Not only does he offer a lot in terms of experience and service but his presence gives an added aura of sophistication to the household. For this reason, every prominent family in the US cannot function without the services of a butler.

Salary: Starting salary is $75K and up for live-in butlers and $40.00 per hour for those who live-out.

Job Benefits: Health insurance.

Extraordinary Perks: Good butlers are well taken care of and highly appreciated by their employers and are often showered with gifts when the employers return from trips. After a long service they are normally given a good severance package and a home in recognition of their long years of dedicated service.
